DCON will feature “pin only” area and enamel pin panel

Anaheim-based design competition opens to the public tomorrow morning

At a convention once reserved exclusively for collectible vinyl toys, enamel pin makers have come to have a notable presence at DesignerCon.

At this year’s 13th running of the annual event, which kicks off tomorrow in Anaheim, attendees will even be able to shop an expansive “pin makers only” area, space #3028 on the floor, made up of 33 different pin makers.

The first ever DCON Enamel Market includes: Spooksieboo, Fanflaire, HeyMama, Jackii The Creative, Toxic Toast, Yada Yada Yada Co., Third World, Coolectric Creations, Flavor Brand, Maintaining Mediocrity, Lantern Pins, 1980Who, Pinsnstuff, Hamimo Small Things, The Notorious Pin, Geeky and Kinky, Special Ed Toys, Stephies Doodles, Pin Plugged, 77th Pinfantry, Steez McGee, Ela Mella, Shittty Stufff, Fkn Rad, Bummer Days, The Pindys, Leen Customs, KZ_Collected, Bioworkz, El Kapintan, Abnormal Clothing and Punch It Chewie Press.

The area has been curated by Enamel Market, a brand that began organizing a parking lot-based pin, patch and toy show in Glendale in August. Enamel Market’s 32-year-old organizer from Covina, California, said he began organizing the events on his own after disappointment in the lack of pin-focused events in Southern California.

PAX West: 2018 Pin Quest

What’s up, gamers?

PAX West, the video game convention that brings tens of thousands of gaming fans to Seattle every summer, officially kicked off today and will run through Monday with a schedule of panels, tournaments, new game demonstrations, video game-inspired musical performances and more.

The event even features its own brand of enamel pins that come with a fun twist. Some can be bought at vendor booths—The Pinny Arcade logo signage designates a booth as being a Pinny Arcade Authorized Pin Dealer–or at the Pinny Arcade store. But many have to be earned, kind of like scout merit badges, by completing specific tasks across the convention floor.

Public invited to come ‘Grill ‘Em’ and ‘Pin ‘Em All’

Pop-up at So-Cal-based Alhambra restaurant will feature enamel pins, beer, burgers and pizza fries

You don’t have to collect or make pins to understand their appeal.
That’s the case for Niki Grasso, who is bringing Pin ‘Em All, a pin pop-up, to the metal music-themed club house Grill ‘Em All in Alhambra tomorrow night.

“…I am not into the whole pin thing,” said Grasso, executive chef and operator of Grill ‘Em All. “My daughter and my partner are and some of my friends are, so that was kind of how it came about.”

Grasso is good friends with Kevin Knight of Geeky and Kinky Pins. The two were hanging out and having a beer when Grasso mentioned that she hosts events on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the burger and beer restaurant. It didn’t take long for Knight to convince his friend to bring pins to Grill ‘Em all—and soon four other local pin artists were on board to vend the event: Bummer Days, Coolectric, Jesse JFR and Otherworld.

The first Pin ‘Em All event will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday (8/30) in the outdoor space at Grill ‘Em All, 19 East Main Street in Alhambra.
Attendees can find ample parking in the Edwards Movie Theater lot next door.
There will be beer and Food specials throughout the night, including Rose City Pizza Fries and Hot Wings, which are typically only served at the restaurant Friday through Sunday.

“We’re a spot for humanity. I don’t know how else to say it other than we want every single person to come and enjoy food here,” Grasso said. “We are a metal-based burger joint, but that doesn’t mean that your grandma, your kids, your aunt, your uncle, your sister, your brother, your mom, your cousin, your little cousin, your old cousin, can come and enjoy the food and environment.”
