Can I Pet Your Dog?

Are you on a mission to pet all of the dogs? This week, purveyor of “sassy pug-inspired designs,” SNG Design Co. launched a new pin especially for dog lovers. Asking if you can pet a dog you don’t know is just good manners. It respects the boundaries of pups who might not be comfortable with being touched by a stranger.

Made from hard enamel, “can I pet your dog” measures 1” long and comes in black or white. It’s now available for sale at the SNG Design Co. Etsy store for $10.

 

Odd Worx/Alex Solis

The King Interactive Pin

Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba! This afternoon, from DesignerCon in Anaheim, California, artist Alex Solis released his latest pin under his Odd Worx brand. It’s a tribute to the king of the pop, set in the world of Disney’s animated classic movie “The Lion King.” The pin is interactive . In a recreation of the film’s most iconic moment, Rafiki the mandrill lifts up Michael Jackson, presenting him to the animal kingdom—you just lift up his tail. It’s made from hard enamel and measures 1.35’ long. The King is available for $15 at the Odd Worx website.

M.A.S.H. Game

Remember the game of M.A.S.H? It’s that fortune-telling game kids play using just a pen and paper—and M.A.S.H. stands for Mansion, Apartment, Shack or House. You could also discover who you would marry, which city you would live in, how many kids you would have, or what kind of car you’d drive, for example.

This week, pin-maker Pinscript debuted a new pin as an homage to one of your favorite games from elementary school and junior high. It comes in four variants, each with a different letter circled M, A, S, or H. True to the spirit of the game, every pin comes in a blind bag so you won’t know which pin you’ll receive, or where you’ll end up living, until you order. Pins measure 1.25” wide, are made with hard enamel and feature screen-printed details. M.A.S.H. pins are for sale at the Pinscript website for $10 each.

Porgs Pin Set

Are Porgs friends? Are they food? Neither? Both? Utinni Bikini designed this Porg pin set especially for Laser Brain’s November Star Wars Pin Club. (Laser Brain is a monthly subscription service that sends recipients mystery pins each month.) They’ve sold out there, but are now available through Utinni Bikini. The set is made from hard enamel and rose gold metal and measures 1.5” tall. Each pin is double posted for added security. The set is currently available for $15.99 at the designer’s Etsy store.

Air Symbiote

If Venom played basketball, it would probably look something like this. This new fan-pin by Rolling Pins mashes up the world of Spiderman comics with the Air Jordan brand. The design, which is newly released this week, is made up of five different colors and measures 2” wide. It’s available for sale at the artist’s online store for $10.

Medusa

Medusa is one of the more notorious figures in Greek Mythology. She was a gorgon, a human-shaped monster with wings and snakes for hair and those who looked her in the face would be turned into stone. This week, Feed Your Head Pins launched a new pin inspired by the iconic character—and the original design, by the artist Rahadil Hermana, won’t turn you into a statue when you admire it.

The pin comes in seven different variants: Ink (black metal, white enamel, white glow), White Gold, Murda (gold metal and black enamel), Space Dust (white metal, black enamel, colorful glitter, epoxy dome) Victorian (antique copper metal, teal enamel, teal glitter) Rainbow Anodized Space Dust (rainbow anodized metal, teal enamel, colorful glitter, glow epoxy dome) and Raw (rainbow anodized metal.) H.A.R.D.A.C. Batman

Fans of “Batman: The Animated Series” may remember H.A.R.D.A.C., a supercomputer that would kidnap important people in Gotham City, like Commissioner Gordon and Mayor Hill, and then sub in an robot duplicate in their stead. H.A.R.D.A.C. eventually discovered Batman’s true identity and made a copy of him, too—and this robot thought he actually was the famous caped crusader. *SPOILER ALERT*– it was a super tragic story, actually.

This week, Duncan Artworks launched the latest addition to the brand’s Crime Alley Series. A collaboration with The Pin Studio, this pin version of H.A.R.D.A.C. Batman is made from soft enamel, features moving slashing arm and metallic enamel for the robot body parts. Each pin comes packaged to look like a real action figure. It’s now available for $15 at the Duncan Artworks website.

Some things just go together. Prime example: Milk and cookies. This week, pin maker Alum and Ink launched a tribute to one of the best comfort food pairings known to man. This hard enamel pin is 1.25″ long and features a kawaii color palette of white, cream and brown. It’s set on highly-polished gold-plated metal. We don’t deserve dogs. They’re too good for us. Sometimes they’re too sweet, funny and frankly, too weird, to even be real. Ever thought your dog was from another world completely? This new pin by Tiny Dangerous celebrates our favorite little space aliens. The pin is made from hard enamel and black nickel plating, includes screenprinted details and glows in the dark. Dark Unicorn Skeleton

Sokay Designs is a self declared purveyor of “stuff you don’t need.” But, if you collect mythical creature pins—or more specifically, unicorn pins, you might actually need the pin maker’s latest release. This design is made with soft enamel, it glows in the dark and measures 1.5 X 1.2” long. Buyers have the option to upgrade their standard rubber backing to a back that locks for an extra $1. The pin is available for $9 in the Sokay Designs Etsy store.

Crazy Little Thing

In honor of the new Freddie Mercury biopic, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and of Mr. Fahrenheit himself, Mame Pins debuted a new pin this week. It’s made from hard enamel and gold metal and measures 1.75” long. Every pin is dual posted and comes with accompanying rubber clutches. It’s available at the Mame Pins website for $10.

 

Stuff Your Face

Peaches: Special Edition

Netherlands based pin maker Stuff Your Face Studio creates designs focused on mental health, sexuality and body positivity. This week, the artist launched a special edition version of the brand’s best-selling pin.

Instead of soft enamel, this special edition pin is made with hard enamel. The colors are a bit different– the pin’s center is now purple with gold glitter. It measures 30 mm wide and has a black rubber clasp at the back. This design is a reference to the electronic musician and performer Peaches’ song “Fuck The Pain Away.” It’s now available in the artist’s Etsy store for $9.42.

 

Netherway Workshop

Ocean Adventure

Did you know that more than 80 percent of Earth’s oceans remain unmapped, unobserved and unexplored? Pin maker Netherway Workshop recently created a tribute to magic of discovery and underwater adventure. Each pin is made with hard enamel and has a rose gold finish. Dimensions are 1.5″ x 1.25″. Flip the pin over and find the “Netherway Workshop” backstamp and teal blue rubber pinbacks. Shoppers can find the pin at the Netherway Workshop online shop for $10 each.

If you go to Disneyland and don’t take a photo of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle—did you really go to Disneyland? The Disney Fantasy pin maker Just Dream understands this and has got you covered. This week they launched a new pin made up of two individual pieces—a classic vintage Polaroid instamatic camera and photo– connected by a silver chain. Each is silver plated and made with glitter. Have you heard of the Buckeye Butterfly? Originally from Africa, these butterflies are colored brown, have green overtones and have large eye spots. This week, UK-based artist Courtney Blades brought an original illustration of the Buckeye Butterfly to life as an enamel pin. Each pin is made from aluminum, brass and stainless steel and measures 1.4 x 0.8 inches. It’s available for sale in the artist’s Etsy store  for approximately $9.93.

Happy Flower

If you take a long, hard look at a daisy, you can see it’s really just a jolly little smiley face with arms and legs. That’s the idea behind a new pin from Australian-based artist IDKwhydesigns. Made from enamel and black nickel, this design measures 25mm long. It’s single posted and comes with a corresponding rubber pink pin back. There are spirits that haunt places–and then there are those that haunt people. Star Wars/80s Movie Mash-Ups

Star Wars pin maker BB-CRE.8 adds new pins to their online store every Friday. This week, the brand takes us back to the 1980s—mashing up iconic movies with beloved characters from the SWU. Rambo plus Bobafett equals Ramboba-Fett. Conan The Barbarian meets Ben Swolo (AKA Kylo Ren) makes the ultra muscley Ben Swolo The Barbarian. C-3PO takes a job cleaning up the streets of Detroit and comes out chasing down creeps under the name C3P-Cop. And Beetlejuice merged with Darth Maul makes the obnoxious, devious demon Beetle-Maul.

The pins are each made from black nickel and hard enamel. Measurements vary between 1.5” and 2”. They’re all dual posted and come with corresponding rubber clutch-backs. Each pin is back-stamped with the artist’s brand logo. All four mash-up pins are available at the BB-CRE.8 website for $10 each.

The Mad Bombers are known for their unique brand of horror-themed, bubbly spa products. (If you’re looking for a “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “IT” or “The Babadook”-themed bath bomb—Mad Bombers have got you covered.) And they also make enamel pins! This week, the brand launched a hinged Frankenstein pin the can be opened up to reveal his insides—and the packaging is designed to look like Milton Bradley’s classic edition of the game “Operation.” Big Frank measures 2.5” long and is made from soft enamel. Today Star Wars Fantasy pin-maker  Punch It Chewie Press debuted something extra special for die-hard Star Wars fans. In the new Clone Trooper Pin Set, each box contains two of the five pins total, of which four have been revealed and one remains a mystery. You’ll have to chance to score a clone from the 501st Legion, the 212th Attack Battalion, The Coruscant Guard, A Standard Clone or the rare Mystery clone. Pins are made from silver metal and hard enamel and measure approximately 2” tall. The film “Scarface” may be 35 years old, but it’s still relevant, as its often quoted by fan-boys and wannabe gangsters. This week Third World Design launched a pin inspired by the film’s most iconic scene. “Say Hello to My Little Friend” is now available for $10 through the brand’s website. There also options to bundle it with two other new pins inspired by the 1983 crime thriller for $25.

TalkBoy

In the movie “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” Kevin McAllister used his TalkBoy, a tape recorder that allowed him to toggle between normal and slow playback, to trick hotel staff into believing that he was traveling with family instead of on his own. The TalkBoy used in the movie was apparently non-functional and came to life with a little help from movie magic. Luckily for 90s kids, some marketing genius came up with the idea to make a real one and sell it at Toys R Us. (RIP Toys R Us.) In case your TalkBoy was sold off in a garage sale (like mine likely was) or you were unsuccessful in convincing a family member to buy you one, you can have the next best thing.
