BB-CRE.8

Star Wars/80s Movie Mash-Ups

C-3PO takes a job cleaning up the streets of Detroit and comes out chasing down creeps under the name C3P-Cop. And Beetlejuice merged with Darth Maul makes the obnoxious, devious demon Beetle-Maul.

The pins are each made from black nickel and hard enamel. Measurements vary between 1.5” and 2”. They’re all dual posted and come with corresponding rubber clutch-backs. Each pin is back-stamped with the artist’s brand logo. All four mash-up pins are available at the BB-CRE.8 website for $10 each.

Jade Boylan lives, designs ‘Candy Doll’ pins on the Isle of Man

Artist’s home is a former power station for the British island’s electric railway system

There’s a 221-mile stretch of land located in the Irish Sea, almost equidistant from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The Isle of Man is recognized by people in that part of the world for its rich history of Celtic and Viking heritage and folklore dating back to 6500 BC, and for its lush green countryside that’s speckled with what remains of Medieval castles.

For such a small place, the island has quite a few surprising ‘claims to fame. It has its own government (the oldest continuous parliament in the world—and the first legislative body to give women the right to vote) and its own language (Manx Gaelic). It’s also home to a tailless breed of cat known as the Manx. It plays host to the most dangerous motorcycle race in the world (The International Isle of Man TT) and is known for being the birthplace of the disco legends, The Bee Gees.

For 27 year-old artist and pin maker Jade Boylan, it’s where she calls home.

I live in a 120-year-old house. My home was originally one of the stations to generate power for the Manx Electric Railway that runs up and down the island,” she said.

Third World Design

Say Hello to My Little Friend

The film “Scarface” may be 35 years old, but it’s still relevant, as its often quoted by fan-boys and wannabe gangsters. This week Third World Design launched a pin inspired by the film’s most iconic scene. “Say Hello to My Little Friend” is now available for $10 through the brand’s website. There also options to bundle it with two other new pins inspired by the 1983 crime thriller for $25.

Crumby Pins

TalkBoy

In the movie “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” Kevin McAllister used his TalkBoy, a tape recorder that allowed him to toggle between normal and slow playback, to trick hotel staff into believing that he was traveling with family instead of on his own. The TalkBoy used in the movie was apparently non-functional and came to life with a little help from movie magic. Luckily for 90s kids, some marketing genius came up with the idea to make a real one and sell it at Toys R Us. (RIP Toys R Us.) In case your TalkBoy was sold off in a garage sale (like mine likely was) or you were unsuccessful in convincing a family member to buy you one, you can have the next best thing. Crumby Pins’new TalkBoy pin measures 1.5” long, is dual posted and comes with green rubber clutches. It’s now available at the artist’s website for $10.
