About: L.A.’s largest comic book, gaming, sci-fi, anime and pop culture convention.

When: Friday 1 p.m.-8 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m.- 7 p.m., and Sunday 9:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Where: Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90015

KCRW presents Music Tastes Good

Long Beach, California

Saturday and Sunday

About: A two-day music, food and arts festival.

When: Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Where: Marina Green Park, 386 E Shoreline Drive, Long Beach, CA 90802

Details: The event will be headlined by the iconic British New Wave legends New Order (Saturday) making their only west coast appearance this year, and Grammy-nominated and Mercury Prize-winning English singer-songwriter James Blake (Sunday). You can see the full line up by going here.

All ages welcome. Event is rain or shine.

The event will feature bars & gourmet food vendors featuring some of Long Beach’s best eateries including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

There are several paid parking lots around the event space, however the event does encourage using rideshare options, metro, and bikes. There will be refillable water stations throughout the festival.

ATMS are on site.

Due to large-scale service animal fraud and for the protection of all festival patrons, service animals must be screened and registered at the Access Center immediately upon entry to the site.

Ru Paul’s Drag Con: New York City

About: A three day event celebrating pop culture, art and all things drag.

When: Friday 4 p..m.-8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Where: Javits Center, 655 W 34th St, New York, NY 10001

Details: In addition to booths on the convention floor, there will be a wide range of programming, including Q&A sessions with drag stars and icons, lip sync contests, drag herstory, fashion, make-up, styling, and pop culture workshops, for men and women. All are welcome at RuPaul’s DragCon. Kids 10 and under on the day of DragCon are free with an adult with a ticket. Ticket prices are available for one day or all weekend and range from $20-$80 each. VIP tickets are sold out. Drag Con is an ADA, fully accessible event.

About: The oddities flea market is the place to go for strange and unusual objects. Items for sale include: history ephemera, anatomical curiosities, natural history items, osteological specimens, taxidermy, home décor, jewelry, one of a kind art, bizarre flair, and more.

When: Saturday Noon to 5:30 p.m.

Where: The Globe Theatre, 740 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, California

Details: Tickets are $10 each and available at the door. Flash tattoos provided by Black Veil Tattoo Studio. The event includes three floors of 60+ vendors.

No plans this weekend? Netflix and chill is great and all, but sometimes you just gotta get out there and do something fun. Thankfully, there are loads of pin-related events for you to check out tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.

TONIGHT

Los Angeles, California

Street Fighter II Arcade Tournament

About: Hadouken! Iron Triangle Brewing Co. in Downtown L.A. is hosting its first-ever Street Fighter II Tournament.

When: Sign-up is located at the bar between 6-30 pm. and 7:30 p.m. The action kicks off at 8 p.m. sharp.

Where: Iron Triangle Brewing Co., 1581 Industrial Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021

Tournament Details: The tournament will be screened live on a projector screen for the whole bar to see.  It costs $10 to enter the tournament and it comes with a free beer. Must be 21+ to play. Due to popular demand, Iron Triangle Brewing Co. is limiting the competition to the first 32 participants, so sign up promptly!

The tournament will be run on a randomized bracket with single elimination. First place wins a trophy, an Iron Triangle T-Shirt and hat and second/third place received a choice of tee or hat. There will be food by Poutine Brothers.

This weekend San Diego’s convention center was again home to the year’s biggest event in pop culture: Comic-Con.

For those who weren’t in attendance (or closely monitoring the action from home like I was) a number of enamel pin artists dropped some pretty notable SDCC exclusives.

Some personal favorites included an 80s-inspired Betty and Veronica and Laser Kitten pin set that celebrates the launch of a clothing and accessories collaboration between the two brands, The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. sliding dust cover designs BB-CRE.8 and A Shop Called Quest and the Rugrats Big People Chuckie and Tommy pin set by Midnight Dogs and Sam Grinberg.
